Elevated blood pressure increases pneumonia risk: Epidemiological association and Mendelian randomization in the UK Biobank

This study examined the association between increased blood pressure and the risk of respiratory infection in participants enrolled in the UK Biobank; overall, data from 377,143 individuals were analyzed, over an average of follow-up period of 8 years. As part of the study, lung function testing (FEV1, FVC, FEV1/FVC) was undertaken using the Vitalograph Pneumotrac spirometer.
