This paper described the design of a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled pilot study that will examine the ability of intradialytic creatine supplementation to improve outcomes in 15 adult patients with dialysis-dependent chronic kidney disease. The primary endpoint will be plasma creatine and intra-erythrocyte creatine concentration, while secondary endpoints will include muscle strength, muscle mass, and body composition. As part of the study, lung function testing (FEV1, FVC) will be undertaken using a Vitalograph Asma-1 handheld respiratory monitor.
