Vitalograph Team’s Journey to Become Patient Champions

The World Health Organisation (WHO) reports significant global impacts from respiratory diseases, with chronic respiratory diseases being among the most common noncommunicable diseases impacting millions worldwide.

In 2025, we are shining a light on patient experience as well as the impact every team member has on the lives of patients all over the world.

As our company continues to grow it is vitally important that we all feel connected to a common goal, and this is what inspired us to develop the Patient Champion campaign.

It speaks to our motivation in coming to work every day, ensuring the right call is made for every decision, big or small.

“The Patient Champion campaign gives us this unique opportunity to identify the correlation between our work and the lives of patients with respiratory conditions,” explained Jennifer Donohue, Vitalograph’s Internal Communications Executive.

It is a three-phase campaign that focuses on:

  • respiratory conditions and the patient experience (I am Aware phase)

  • primary care, secondary care and pharmaceutical research (I am Mindful phase)

  • how each employee is connected to the patient through their role (I am Connected phase).

“To encourage involvement and to ensure that employees are supported in this campaign, we have set up a Patient Champion Employee Resource Group that has employee representatives in each site – Ennis (Ireland), Limerick (Ireland), Buckingham (UK), Hamburg (Germany), Lenexa (US) and Haverhill (US),” Jennifer said.

“Through the ERG, we can promote involvement, answer questions and engage with our colleagues onsite to really help to develop active participation in the Patient Champion campaign and also to identify how we can bring the core values of the campaign into everyday workflows.”

The campaign is delivered through engaging and interactive learning modules on the Vitalograph Centre of Learning platform. Each month new courses are added, some of which are mandatory for all employees and other courses are bonus content to support employees’ own desire to learn more about particular topics.

Recent learning outcomes have included fostering a better understanding of primary and secondary care healthcare environments; respiratory disease diagnosis, monitoring and management; and patient experiences living with lung conditions such as COPD, asthma and cystic fibrosis.
