Mannitol-evoked cough response is reduced by inhaled salbutamol

This double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled, crossover study compared the effects of salbutamol versus placebo on the maximum number of coughs evoked by mannitol in 20 patients with allergic asthma and 20 healthy control subjects. The number of coughs in the 60-second period following each mannitol inhalation was verified using the Vitalograph VitaloJAK cough monitor.
