The Vitalograph® Eco BVF™ (Bacterial Viral Filter™) range combines independently validated 99.999% bacterial and viral cross-contamination efficiency for medical personnel, patients and equipment, with a reduced environmental impact because less plastic used in manufacturing.
The electrostatically charged barrier filters droplets, aerosols, bacteria and viruses out of the airstream. When a new BVF is used for every patient the interior of the device is protected so only exterior surface should require cleaning.
The Vitalograph Eco BVF™ range protects patients, medical personnel and equipment from cross infection and contamination during pulmonary function testing.
Kits are available to include Eco BVF, noseclip and bite on mouthpiece combination options. The range also includes an extended 'Bite-Lip' design offering a lower cost alternative.

Do manufacturers of PFT systems “approve” the Vitalograph Eco BVF for their devices?
AddVitalograph Eco BVFs are suitable for all PFT systems and do not have to be approved for use. We ensure that our filters are independently tested and validated with all relevant certifications held for CE marking, in accordance with the EU Medical Devices Directive 93/42/EEC, as well as for other applicable standards.
Will the use of Eco BVFs (Bacterial Viral Filters) lead to measurement errors?
AddThe use of Eco BVFs does not give rise to errors in measurements from spirometers or PFT systems. It is important to note the following points:
Resistance (Flow Impedance) of the filter: Vitalograph filters are well below the maximum resistance value recommended by international ATS/ERS/ISO spirometry standards.
Vitalograph Eco BVFs have a comparatively small effective dead space of 55ml to improve the validity and consistency of testing and minimize rebreathing.
Are round or oval filter mouthpieces more suitable?
AddThe Vitalograph range includes both round and oval filter so that you can choose either. Vitalograph offer separate mouthpieces that can be attached to filters. These mouthpieces are available to order individually or as a kit with BVF and nose clip.
What are PFT Kits and are they needed?
AddPFT Kits are made up from a combination of filter, nose-clip and various mouthpieces or adapters. They are a cost effective and convenient solution with all components in a single, easy to access pack.
Can a filter be re-used for multiple patients by using and disinfecting a separate mouthpiece?
AddNo. A new filter should be used for each patient.
Are adapters needed for Vitalograph Filters?
