Vitalograph Bacterial Viral FiltersTM (BVF) provide an efficient hygiene solution giving better than 99.999% cross-contamination efficiency.
Suitable for inspiratory and expiratory spirometry testing, these single-use bacterial viral filters provide effective protection from cross infection.
A wide range of BVFs are available to fit all leading makes of spirometers and PFT equipment. These may be purchased as standalone filters or in a kit with BVF, bite-on mouthpiece and noseclip options.

Vitalograph BVF™ Bacterial Viral Filters feature an electrostatically charged barrier that filters droplets, aerosols, bacteria and viruses out of the airstream giving better than 99.999% cross contamination efficiency.
A BVF protects the patient, operator and equipment from cross infection and contamination during pulmonary function testing.
Improved hygiene with lower running costs; when a new BVF is used for every patient the interior of the device is protected meaning that only exterior surface cleaning should be required.

Are BVFs suitable for spirometers and pulmonary function (PFT) equipment from all major manufacturers?

Do manufacturers of PFT systems “approve” the Vitalograph BVF for their devices?
AddVitalograph BVFs are suitable for all PFT systems and do not have to be approved for use. We ensure that our filters are independently tested and validated with all relevant certifications held for CE marking, in accordance with the EU Medical Devices Directive 93/42/EEC, as well as for other applicable standards.
Will the use of Bacterial Viral Filters (BVFs) lead to measurement errors?
AddThe use of BVFs does not give rise to errors in measurements, from spirometers or PFT systems. It is important to note the following points:
Resistance (Flow Impedance) of the filter: Vitalograph filters are well below the maximum resistance value recommended by international ATS/ERS/ISO technical standards.
Vitalograph BVFs have a comparatively small effective dead space of 65ml to improve the validity and consistency of testing and minimize rebreathing.
Are round or oval filter mouthpieces more suitable?
AddThe Vitalograph range includes both round and oval filter so that you can choose either. Vitalograph offer separate mouthpieces that can be attached to filters. These mouthpieces are available to order individually or as a kit with BVF and nose clip.
What are PFT Kits and are they needed?
AddPFT Kits are made up from a combination of filter, nose-clip and various mouthpieces or adapters. They are a cost effective and convenient solution with all components in a single, easy to access pack.
Can a filter be re-used for multiple patients by using and disinfecting a separate mouthpiece?
AddNo. A new filter should be used for each patient.
Are adapters needed for Vitalograph Filters?
