This study examined to what extent smoking, respiratory symptoms, and lung function were associated with remaining life expectancy in 8930 older adults enrolled in the ELSA study. As part of the study, pre-bronchodilator lung function testing (FEV1, FVC, FEV1/FVC ratio) was undertaken using the Vitalograph Escort spirometer.
