Defining the Lower Limits of Normal (LLN) in Spirometry

Device Types:
Spirometer
Authors:
Andy Roebuck

The use of percent predicted is widely used when assessing lung function, with an 80% “cut-off” for LLN during diagnosis and monitoring of respiratory disease. However, the 80% figure is not based on any scientific foundation and may give false-positive results. The marker of abnormality may need reviewing for either young or elderly subjects.
