Respiratory muscle training in stroke patients with respiratory muscle weakness, dysphagia, and dysarthria – A prospective randomized trial

This prospective, randomized controlled trial examined the efficacy of respiratory muscle training for improving swallowing function, pulmonary function, functional performance, and dysarthria in 21 patients aged 35–80 years who had experienced a stroke. The primary endpoints were change in MIP and MEP; secondary endpoints included pulmonary function parameters (ie FVC, FEV1, MMEF, PCF, resting respiratory rate). Lung function testing was undertaken using a Vitalograph spirometer with Spirotrac software.
