Guideline Focused Management of Respiratory Weakness in NMD
Respiratory muscle weakness in patients with neuromuscular disease (NMD) can lead to poor quality of life and high mortality. This webinar will concisely review the most updated guidelines for respiratory management of patients with neuromuscular weakness published by the American College of Chest Physicians. This presentation will address respiratory muscle testing, the benefits of mechanical ventilation, the timing of initiation of ventilation and modes, settings, and place of initiation. About the Presenter
Dr. Bernardo Selim is an Associate Professor of Medicine at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and the Director of Mayo Clinic's Respiratory Care Unit in Rochester. After finishing his internal medicine residency training at Boston University, he completed his pulmonary, critical care, and sleep medicine fellowship at Yale University. His research and clinical interests are focused on advanced positive airway pressure devices to treat sleep-related breathing disorders and respiratory failure due to neuromuscular diseases.
