Hidden depletion of fat-free mass and bone mineral density in adults with cystic fibrosis

This study examined the occurrence and distribution of hidden fat-free mass loss and its relationship to indicators of disease severity in 56 patients with cystic fibrosis and 20 age-matched healthy volunteers. Spirometry endpoints included FEV1, FVC and FEV1/FVC ratio, and were measured using the Vitalograph Alpha spirometer. RV, TLC, and RV/TLC ratio were determined using the helium dilution method.
