Patient-reported assessments of chronic cough in clinical trials: Accessory or primary endpoints?

Disease Areas:
Cough
Device Types:
VitaloJAK

This review summarized commonly used patient-reported outcomes for cough, along with a discussion of their validity, strengths, limitations, and potential for use as primary endpoints in clinical trials. Use of patient-worn cough monitors to objectively measure 24-hour cough frequency was covered, including the Vitalograph VitaloJAK monitor. Per the authors, advantages of the VitaloJAK device are that it "[p]rovides objective and quantifiable cough counts" and is "[l]ess likely to be affected by mood, personality", compared with patient-reported outcome measures.
