This pilot study explored non-cough expiratory effort (NCEE) events, such as throat clearing and grunts, as potential markers of throat discomfort in chronic cough. Researchers analysed 24-hour VitaloJAK® recordings from 10 patients, using the device to capture and quantify both coughs and NCEE events. Results showed NCEEs were common and may complement cough frequency measures in reflecting patients’ lived experience and supporting future patient stratification.
