Sustainability Champions Pop-up Plant Swap

Here at Vitalograph, we have a number of employee resource groups that unite around a shared purpose. Sustainability Champions is one of these groups and is increasing in popularity as our organisation grows.

Sustainability Champions is a voluntary team dedicated to identifying and implementing projects and engaging colleagues in all aspects of Vitalograph’s sustainability strategy and wider sustainability awareness initiatives.

In the spirit of renewal and growth, the latest initiative Grow Together offered our team the opportunity to enjoy the benefits of, and learn about, plants. Each site hosted a pop-up plant swap, where people could adopt or donate a plant and share plant care tips. The cheerful display of plants brightened up our workplaces and we are already looking forward to the next pop-up!

Did you know? There are a number of benefits to having plants at home and in the workplace. Some research has linked indoor plants to:

  1. Lower stress and anxiety levels

  2. Improved air quality

  3. Sound absorption

  4. Positive impact on concentration, creativity, productivity

Multiple small studies have analysed the relationship between being near indoor plants and lower stress levels. A 2015 study in the Journal of Physiological Anthropology found that interacting with indoor plants may reduce psychological and physiological stress. Another study from Japan concluded that even just gazing at a plant on your work desk may reduce anxiety levels.

Interacting with plants, especially before taking on a creative task, may get that creative mind going. A 2015 study found that biophilic design in the workplace can help to increase creativity by up to 15 percent. Field experiments conducted in The Netherlands and the UK found that  enriching offices with plants could increase productivity levels.

Together we can create a greener future, one plant at a time 🪴
