Increasing positive end-expiratory pressure (re-)improves intraoperative respiratory mechanics and lung ventilation after prone positioning

This prospective study evaluated the impact of PEEP on intra-tidal respiratory mechanics and regional lung aeration in 45 patients with healthy lungs undergoing lumbar spine surgery in the prone position. On the day prior to surgery, all patients underwent lung function testing using the Vitalograph In2itive spirometer.
