ERS statement on respiratory muscle testing at rest and during exercise

This paper comprises an ERS statement on respiratory muscle testing at rest and during exercise, following key advances in the fields of breathing mechanics, respiratory muscle neurophysiology, and respiratory muscle imaging in health and disease. The statement was developed by a multidisciplinary task force of experts in the field of respiratory medicine and physiology, with support from ERS methodologists. Key sections include respiratory muscle function, neurophysiology, and imaging, as well as respiratory muscle structure, perfusion, and metabolism. Voluntary tests of respiratory muscle strength were covered (including MEP, MIP, SNIP and PCF), along with lung function testing (VC, TLC).
