The objective of this study was to design, synthesize, and screen a series of novel dry-powder-inhaler excipients, with the aim of identifying compounds with improved properties compared with existing fumaryl diketopiperazine excipients. The selected compound was tested in an animal study to evaluate whether it induced coughing, with the number of coughs within 30 minutes post-inhalation measured using the Vitalograph VitaloJAK system.
