How to realize device interoperability and information security in mHealth applications

This review examined telemedical approaches using modern smartphones connected to medical devices (ie mHealth), in particular the challenges patients face in connecting medical devices to their smartphones (ie device interoperability) and a lack of control over their sensitive health data (ie information security). The authors highlighted the Vitalograph COPD-6 Bluetooth device as an example of a home-use medical device that is capable of connecting to a smartphone. The review provided an overview of the device, noting that it provides "a sound hardware foundation for telemedical mHealth apps". The Vitalograph Lung Monitor was also briefly covered as a device that is supported by a privacy management platform metering resource.
