This paper described the design of a randomized controlled trial that will evaluate the effect of post-stroke inspiratory muscle training, as compared with conventional neurorehabilitation, on inspiratory capacity and short-term physical disability in 80 adult patients at a specialized neurorehabilitation hospital in Denmark. The primary endpoint is MIP; secondary endpoints will include the ability to perform daily activities, 6MWD, fatigue, average voice volume, phonation endurance, and expiratory capacity. Expiratory endpoints (FEV1, FVC, FEV1/FVC ratio, PEF) will be measured using the Vitalograph Micro spirometer.
