Lower lung function associates with cessation of menstruation: UK Biobank data

This study examined the association between lung function and natural/surgical cessation of menstruation in women enrolled in the UK Biobank; also assessed was whether lower lung function was associated with earlier age at natural menopause. Outcomes were analyzed in 141,076 women who had provided acceptable and reproducible spirometry measurements and for whom information on menstrual status was available. Pre-bronchodilator spirometry was performed by nurses or healthcare technicians using a Vitalograph Pneumotrac spirometer.
