A review of electronic devices to assess inhaler technique

Disease Areas:
Asthma
Device Types:
AIM

This review provided information on digital devices designed to assess inhaler technique in patients with asthma. Use of the Vitalograph AIM was examined, including what it measures (eg canister activation, inhalation rate, inhalation time, breath hold time), how real-time feedback is displayed, device compatibility (MDI or DPI), cost, and approval status in the United States. According to the authors, the device is "targeted for clinicians, but the nature of its feedback suggests that it could also be readily understood by patients". Aspects of the INCA device were also examined.
