Causal inverse association between lung function and new-onset microvascular diseases in patients with type 1 diabetes

Disease Areas:
Population study
Device Types:
Pneumotrac, Spirotrac

This study examined the relationship between lung function and microvascular disease in individuals with diabetes, type 2 diabetes mellitus, and type 1 diabetes mellitus. Data were obtained from individuals enrolled in the UK Biobank; a phenotypic analysis was conducted in 14,617 participants with diabetes and no microvascular diseases at baseline, while a mendelian randomization analysis was conducted in 6,838 participants with microvascular diseases (versus 10,755 control subjects). Baseline lung function data (FEV1, FVC) were examined as part of the study, with measurements collected using the Vitalograph Pneumotrac spirometer.
