Optimising Spirometry Endpoints in Clinical Trials
Spirometry remains one of the most widely used pulmonary function tests in respiratory clinical trials, underpinning primary and secondary endpoints across a broad range of indications.
However, applying standardised quality assurance (QA) criteria uniformly across diverse patient populations may inadvertently introduce variability, exclude valuable data, and impact trial outcomes.
Join us for our next expert-led webinar on Tuesday 01 September 2026, featuring Grant Sowman, VP Clinical Services at Vitalograph, and Holly Wilson, Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist (RPFT). They will explore how a disease-specific approach to spirometry quality assurance can help optimise endpoint reliability while maintaining adherence to ATS/ERS 2019 standards.
Drawing on real-world clinical trial experience and practical case examples, this session examines the limitations of a one-size-fits-all QA framework and highlights how disease physiology can influence a patient's ability to meet spirometry acceptability criteria.
Attendees will gain insights into common objective and subjective QA errors, the role of expert over-reading, and strategies for balancing automated review with clinical judgement.
Whether you are involved in clinical trial study design, site management, pulmonary function testing, data review, or endpoint analysis, this webinar will provide practical strategies for improving spirometry data quality and reducing unnecessary variability in respiratory clinical trials, such as through tailored coaching, over-reading, and disease-specific QA frameworks
This webinar is ideal for sponsors, CROs, clinical trial site staff, respiratory physiologists, pulmonary function technologists, and anyone involved in the collection, review, or interpretation of spirometry endpoints in clinical research.
Learning Objectives
Attending this webinar will support you to better:
Interpret the ATS-ERS 2019 spirometry QA criteria in the context of clinical trial endpoints.
Evaluate how disease-specific factors influence spirometry quality and endpoint reliability.
Assess if there are limitations of uniform QA application across respiratory indications.
Apply disease-specific considerations to improve spirometry QA practices in trials.
