This cross-sectional, case-control study evaluated the characteristics of respiratory muscle weakness in 21 patients with myotonic dystrophy type 1, as compared with 21 age-, gender-, and BMI-matched healthy control subjects. Lung function testing (FEV1, FVC) was undertaken using a Vitalograph electronic spirometer.
