Cognitive decline and risk of dementia in older adults after diagnosis of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease

This study examined the change over time in cognitive function and the risk of incident dementia in 3,982 older adults with COPD enrolled in a population-based cohort study in Sweden. Participants included in the cohort study underwent serial lung function testing (FEV1, FVC, FEV1/FVC ratio) using the Vitalograph In2itive spirometer, with results used in a sensitivity analysis as an alternative way to identify COPD cases.
