Diaphragmatic dysfunction is associated with postoperative pulmonary complications and phrenic nerve paresis in patients undergoing thoracic surgery

This prospective observational study evaluated perioperative changes in diaphragmatic function and phrenic nerve conduction in 40 adults who underwent routine thoracic surgery (ie pulmonary lobectomy or esophageal resection). As part of the study, lung function (FEV1, FVC, FEV1/FVC ratio) was assessed using a Vitalograph Pneumotrac spirometer with Spirotrac 5 Software.
