This study examined the effect of hyperventilation, as compared with normal breathing, on oxygenation, apnea breaking points, diving response, and splenic contraction during serial breath-holding in 18 volunteers with little or no experience in freediving. As part of the study, SVC was measured using the Vitalograph Compact Expert spirometer.
