Neuromuscular electrical stimulation prevents muscle function deterioration in exacerbated COPD: A pilot study

Disease Areas:
COPD
Device Types:
Alpha

This pilot study evaluated the feasibility and efficacy of quadriceps neuromuscular electrical stimulation for the prevention of muscle function deterioration in 11 patients admitted to hospital because of a severe exacerbation of COPD. As part of the study, post-bronchodilator lung function testing was performed when patients were clinically stable (ie a month after the exacerbation event) using a Vitalograph Alpha spirometer.
