Non-invasive phenotyping using exhaled volatile organic compounds in asthma

This study was undertaken to identify specific patterns of volatile organic compounds in the breath of 35 patients with asthma and 23 matched controls; also investigated was the ability to classify patients with asthma based on their sputum inflammatory cell profile and degree of disease control. Lung function testing was performed using a Vitalograph dry wedge spirometer.
