Spleen volume and contraction during apnea in Mt. Everest climbers and Everest base camp trekkers

This study examined splenic volume and contraction during apneas in individuals planning to summit Mt Everest (n=12) and individuals trekking to Everest Base Camp (n=12); tests were conducted 1–3 days after participants had arrived in Kathmandu, Nepal, and before the planned climb/trek. As part of the study, seated VC was measured in duplicate using a Vitalograph COMPACT spirometer.
