Patient education and adherence to aerosol therapy

This review outlined the role of patient education in terms of adherence to prescribed aerosol therapy. Use of the Vitalograph AIM for both assessing and providing feedback on inhalation technique was examined. The AIM device measures inspiratory flow and monitors patient hand-breath coordination during pMDI usage. According to the authors, based on study findings, the device is "a valuable training tool in patient education [leading to] significant improvement in physical function between baseline and follow-up".
