Body mass index and response to emergency department treatment in adults with severe asthma exacerbations: A prospective cohort study

This prospective cohort study compared emergency department and hospitalization outcomes in overweight/obese (n=161) versus underweight/normal weight (n=265) adults with severe episodes of acute asthma. The primary endpoints were duration of emergency department treatment and rate of hospitalization; secondary endpoints were changes in PEF and FEV1, which were measured using a Vitalograph COMPACT spirometer.
