Methods of Cough Assessment

This report outlines the most effective methods of assessing cough and cites the VitaloJAK as an important tool for objective cough measurement. VitaloJAK is a validated solution for the objective assessment of cough in clinical Trials. It is a wearable, battery-operated portable recorder which records for up to 24 hours while the subject continues normal activity. Audio files are digitally processed, compressed and then evaluated by human cough analysts. The median sensitivity for detecting coughs from the highest level of compression is 99.9%. VitaloJAK has been used to explore methods of quantifying cough frequency, gain insight into mechanisms of cough and development of antitussive therapies in COPD, IPF, and the differential responses of subjective and objective measures of cough in lung cancer.
