Relationship between serum omega-3 fatty acid and asthma endpoints

Disease Areas:
Asthma
Device Types:
Wedge Bellows,3L Syringe

This was a cross-sectional study designed to examine the association between seafood intake, serum polyunsaturated fatty acid composition and asthma endpoints in 642 adults employed at two fish processing plants on the West Coast of South Africa. Asthma-related endpoints of interest included non-specific bronchial hyper-responsiveness, defined as a positive methacholine challenge test with a PC20 ≤8 mg/mL resulting in a ≥20% decrease in FEV1 or an increase in FEV1 of 12% after 10 minutes of bronchodilator administration on baseline spirometry. Spirometric testing was performed using the Vitalograph-S model bellows volume-time spirometer, which was calibrated at least twice daily with a 3L syringe.
