The aim of this consensus-based paper was to provide clarity on the diagnosis, management and monitoring of pediatric and adult asthma in areas where there was uncertainty arising from differences in United Kingdom asthma guidelines. The role of spirometry and FeNO in making a diagnosis of asthma was covered, as were possible differential diagnoses, reasons for specialist referral, common causes of poor asthma control, and factors associated with an increased risk of future asthma attacks in children and adults.
