Beyond the runway: Respiratory health effects of ultrafine particles from aviation in children

This study examined the effects of ultrafine particles on daily changes in spirometry, exhaled nitric oxide, respiratory symptoms, and bronchodilator use in two panels of school children aged 7–11 years living in the vicinity of Schiphol Airport, Amsterdam, the Netherlands. As part of the study, children performed home spirometry (FEV1, PEF) on a daily basis using a Vitalograph Asma-1 device.
