Comparison of serious inhaler technique errors made by device-naive patients using three different dry powder inhalers: A randomised, crossover, open-label study

Disease Areas:
COPD,Asthma
Device Types:
Spirotrac,Pneumotrac

This randomized, crossover, open-label study examined the proportion of patients making pre-defined serious errors with Pulmojet, as compared with Diskus and Turbohaler, in 430 patients with asthma and/or COPD; all patients were current users of an inhaler, but were naïve to the devices used in the study. The primary endpoint was the proportions of patients achieving an absence of serious errors on each device. The secondary endpoint was the rate of inhalation errors; this was assessed by a nurse observer qualified to identify serious errors in device handling technique and by measuring the inhalation profile using the Vitalograph Pneumotrac spirometer.
