Systemic elastin degradation in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease

This study evaluated whether patients with COPD have evidence of systemic elastin degradation; the study included male ex-smokers with COPD (n=16) and matched controls (n=15). As part of the study, pre- and post-bronchodilator FEV1 and FVC was measured using a Vitalograph Alpha spirometer.
