Changes in chest wall motion with removal of Nuss bar in repaired pectus excavatum – A cohort study

This prospective, single-center cohort study examined the effects of removal of the Nuss bar on chest wall motion and spirometry in nine male patients aged 17–23 years who had previously undergone the Nuss procedure for treatment of pectus excavatum. Study investigations included regional chest volume changes, synchrony of respiratory movement, and spirometry, which were undertaken just prior to and 6 weeks after Nuss bar removal. Lung function testing was assessed using the Vitalograph wedge bellows spirometer.
