Spirometry performed as part of the Manchester community-based lung cancer screening programme detects a high prevalence of airflow obstruction in individuals without a prior diagnosis of COPD

This study evaluated the role of spirometry in a community-based lung cancer screening program in Manchester, United Kingdom. Endpoints of interest included pre-bronchodilator FEV1 and FVC, with airflow obstruction defined as an FEV1/FVC ratio of <0.7. Spirometry was performed in accordance with ARTP guidelines using the Vitalograph Alpha desktop spirometer.
