Targeting TRP channels for chronic cough: From bench to bedside

Disease Areas:
COPD,Lung cancer,Cough,Asthma
Device Types:
VitaloJAK

This review provided an overview of airway sensory nerves and the cough reflex, highlighting the role of the TRP family of ion channels as potential therapeutic targets. In-clinic measurements of cough were examined, including use of ambulatory cough monitors such as the Vitalograph VitaloJAK. The VitaloJAK was described by the authors as a "custom-made digital recording device" that comprises "a compression algorithm that removes silence and the bulk of non-cough sounds from 24-h acoustic recordings". Per published and unpublished data from patients with chronic cough, asthma, COPD, lung cancer and healthy controls, the VitaloJAK "provides a sound file an average of 85 min in length containing median 100.0 % (range 97.3–100 %) of coughs in the original 24-h recording"
